The Mountain Mover

My final model for my 3DSMax class. Came out a lot better than I expected (having never done textures before.)

Initial concept art. The more I look at this picture the more I wish I'd spent more time on it.
Ah that's much more like it.
There's something surreal about looking between the concept and the model. Maybe it's just because I haven't done a lot of 3D modeling but I find it fascinating to think that I turned something 2D into something 3D.

I also animated it, though 120 frames isn't a whole lot to work with.

The Great Train Robbery

Final for Photoshop class.

The Great Train Robbery - Process

My final project for my Photoshop class at DigiPen was simply to make whatever, so long as we spent 20+ hours working on it.

Initial idea I had was for some kind of thunder monster battling airships. Wasn't as cool as I thought it was going to be.

After jingling a few ideas around in my head, I decided to go with some kind of Mad Max take on the classic train robberies of the wild west.

Everything's better with an explosion.
Got a suggestion to make it inside a tunnel. At first I wasn't sure how it'd look but once I hit my value comps the idea seemed a lot more enticing.

Wanted to keep one outside for good measure
So enticing that most of my color comps were the tunnel scene. But with a few more suggestions I made some improvements to the outdoor one, suddenly making it look a whole lot cooler.

I ended up picking the outdoor comp to take to a finish, despite how much I liked the tunnel at first.

Work in progress

Movie Thumbnails

Now this is a fun thing to try, and I definitely recommend anyone with an interest in getting better in Photoshop to try this out. Based off a study done by a guy named Daryl Mandryk, you watch a movie (or a bunch of movies if you prefer) and draw little thumbnails of the stills, limiting yourself to 10 or 20 minutes. Really helps to improve speed as well as get more information about composition, value and color.

And bonus points to anybody who can name all the movies I drew.

Hobos and Potato Sacks - The Process

Original pose. No he's not that skinny, I was actually using this for another assignment where we had to modify a model's anatomy, but I liked the pose so much that I decided to go with it.

Was hit by a bunch of different ideas and I had the hardest time choosing between them, even when I got the value comps done

Once the color comps got done I had an easier time picking out what I wanted to see to completion.
Still wasn't quite good with the colors so I did a few more to see what I wanted in the background

Putting a Figure Into Costume

Our assignment was to take a gesture drawing we've done and put the model into a costume and environment
